Want to move faster? Want to jump higher? “You have been training hard, you have been doing all of your drills, but somehow, you don't seem to totally unveil your strength and explosiveness. If you have recently not been weightlifting; the link to superior strength and power may be missing” what they say about weight training I know that you may have been told not to weight train, and that you may have heard terrible things about weight training in the past. The fact is, most of what you have been told, and most of what you are being told, is in general, a misconception. It is because of my personal experiences that I can tell you this, in the past, I, like you, was misled. I was told the same Because I had heard the same things I was afraid of even touching a weight! I was convinced that if I dared to engage in weight training, I would lose my sport specific capabilities, and as a result, I would become stiff and slow. Basically, I feared that I would turn myself into a muscle-bound person. My own realization Fortunately, one day, I realized that if I performed repetitions with extra weight (in addition to my own body weight) I would be much more efficient, since my muscles would be handling not only my body weight, but also the added resistance. This, in turn, would take much more effort, more energy, more work and therefore; my threshold to physical exertion would be higher. I took all my guessing and my fears to a nearby gym, where I started to experiment with weights. Benefits I got from weight-training To my surprise, and admittedly after getting used to dealing with the inconveniences of the weight training adaptation process (stiffness, soreness, etc), I was amazed at how good I felt. Weight training literally enhanced all my physical capabilities. I was stronger and faster I noticed in the moments when occasionally went back to practicing Martial Arts. Additionally and unlike before, I looked strong (because of a bigger body frame) and my friends started to compliment my new look.
The Roll Your Central Nervous System Plays As you may already know, body movement results from a command by your CNS (central nervous system) which signals your muscles to contract. Faster CNS signals mean faster muscle contractions: you will be able to move faster, jump higher, and in general perform any sport that requires you to move powerfully more efficiently. When you use weights as a mean of enhancing your sports capabilities, you can actually train your brain to activate the muscle fibers that produce bursts of power. An overall improvement in strength and power is what you achieve when you do weight training in addition to your sport specific drills. Once engaged in weight training, the only thing that you need to know, is how to apply your heightened strength to your specific sports activity, in other words, how to use weights to become functionally strong. Your goal is not just to build muscles but to get the most neuromuscular stimulus. If properly executed, Weight training can be the shortcut to become functionally stronger. This is simply because you can use weights to mimic movements that require the simultaneous recruitment of different muscle groups in the same way as when playing sports (squatting, deadlifting, standing pressing etc.) Take a minute to read and think about what one of my clients (who is a basketball player) has to say about the benefits of incorporating weight training into his sport specific training regime.
